John 17: The Altar of the Region - Jesus Centered Unity

John 17:20–23 (NIV)

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one — I in them and you in me — so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”

Scripture Reflection

Before going to the cross, Jesus prayed a single, powerful prayer for His future church: that we would be one. This unity is not superficial agreement, but a profound oneness rooted in Christ Himself — “just as you are in me and I am in you.”

Jesus tied the credibility of the gospel to the unity of His people. He longed that our oneness would reveal to the world both His divine sending and the Father’s love. True revival, therefore, is never just about a local spark or an individual heart, but about the whole region of believers being woven together in Christ.

Movements like the New England Revival Covenant exist to nurture this Jesus-centered unity — to stand together, pray together, and contend together for God’s purposes. Our shared altars of prayer across the region form a powerful witness to a fractured world that Christ is real and His love is unstoppable.

In a culture marked by division and distrust, the church has a chance to live as a prophetic sign: many members, one Body; many voices, one worship; many churches, one Bride. May we embrace Jesus’ prayer for us — that we would be brought to complete unity in Him — so that the world may know He was sent by the Father.

Praying it UP / IN / OUT

UP: Worship Jesus as the One who holds the church together in perfect love and unity. Thank Him for praying for us and interceding still.

IN: Ask God to make you a peacemaker and a bridge-builder within His Body, forgiving offenses and walking in humility. Pray for a heart that treasures unity over personal preference.

OUT: Intercede for churches, pastors, and believers across New England to experience a supernatural, Jesus-centered unity that becomes a witness to the world of God’s love and truth.

Closing Prayer

Jesus,

You prayed for our unity on the night before You went to the cross. You longed that Your church would be one, just as You and the Father are one. Forgive us for where we have allowed division, suspicion, or pride to separate us.

Heal our broken relationships. Knit our hearts together in love. Let the church in New England be a sign and wonder of Your reconciling power — many streams flowing as one river, many parts forming one Body, many voices lifted as one worship.

Teach us to value Your mission above our preferences, to prioritize Your kingdom above our own kingdoms, to love one another deeply from the heart.

We ask, Lord, for the kind of unity that shakes the watching world and testifies that You have truly been sent from God.
