Phil 4: Unity in the Regional Church

“I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life.”

Scripture Reflection

Paul pleads with Euodia and Syntyche to be “of the same mind in the Lord” — a plea for unity among gospel co-laborers. He recognized that even faithful, courageous believers could become divided, and he called the church to actively help them reconcile for the sake of the mission.

In New England, the Church is similarly divided — across tribes, traditions, denominations, ethnic groups, geographies, and worship styles. Liturgical, evangelical, charismatic, Roman Catholic, and other communities often find it difficult to move together. Even when hearts long for unity, the practical challenge of how to sustain and contain it can feel overwhelming.

This is why the New England Revival Covenant matters. It serves as a shared “container” for unity — a framework of common agreement rooted in prayer, humility, and gospel vision. Rather than requiring everyone to be at everyone else’s events, the covenant creates a house of unity where churches and believers can stand together in one Spirit and one purpose, while still honoring their differences.

If we are to see revival, the regional church must stand together. We need a durable, intentional unity — not built on personalities or hype, but on shared commitments and shared prayers. As Paul urged the church to help these women reconcile, so we, too, are called to help the streams of the church contend together for the gospel, joined in covenant love and mission.

Praying it UP / IN / OUT

UP: Praise Jesus as the Head of the one Church, whose heart is for a unified Bride. Thank Him that our names are written together in the book of life.

IN: Pray for a personal heart of humility, willing to cross barriers for the sake of unity. Ask God to show you any bias or pride that keeps you from working with other believers.

OUT: Intercede for the regional church across New England — for denominational, ethnic, and class divides to be healed, and for the New England Revival Covenant to serve as a strong container of unity that allows diverse churches to stand together in prayer and mission.

Closing Prayer

Jesus,

You love Your Church, every tribe and tongue, every tradition and stream. Forgive us for our rivalries, our suspicions, our disinterest in one another. Heal our divided witness.

Give us courage to lay down our preferences for the sake of Your kingdom. Give us grace to be of the same mind in the Lord, like Euodia and Syntyche, laboring side by side for the gospel.

We pray that the New England Revival Covenant would become a house of unity, a practical framework where believers and churches can agree together even across differences. Knit our hearts around Your mission, Your glory, and Your name.

Make Your Church one — so that the world might believe.

Until every stream is gathered into one river, keep us contending, humble, and united.
