Isaiah 11: The Knowledge of the Lord
Scripture
Isaiah 11:9
“They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.”
Scripture Reflection
Isaiah’s vision is breathtaking: a world so saturated with the knowledge of the Lord that violence, harm, and destruction simply cease. It is a picture of a healed creation, where God’s character, ways, and glory are no longer hidden but flood every corner of the earth like the ocean covers every grain of sand beneath its depths.
Throughout history, moments of great awakening have given us glimpses of this. During times of revival, the knowledge of God — not just facts about Him, but intimate, experiential knowledge of His presence — spreads like wildfire. In those times, stories abound of communities transformed, injustices righted, relationships healed, and violence restrained because people come to know the living God.
This is what we long for in our own day: a fresh outpouring of the knowledge of the Lord. Not a shallow awareness of religion, but a deep, transformative encounter with His holiness, His mercy, His love. May this knowledge fill New England again, washing over schools, homes, churches, businesses, and governments like a surging tide, until the land is soaked in His glory.
Praying it UP / IN / OUT
UP: Worship God for His wisdom, holiness, and beauty — a God worthy to be known and adored. Thank Him that His ways are good and His purposes are peace.
IN: Pray that you would grow in personal, experiential knowledge of the Lord — beyond facts, into friendship, reverence, and love. Ask God to remove any barriers in your heart that block truly knowing Him.
OUT: Intercede for New England, that the knowledge of the Lord would spread like the waters cover the sea. Pray that entire neighborhoods, campuses, and cities would be filled with an encounter of who God really is, bringing healing and peace.
Closing Prayer
Lord of all the earth,
We long for the day when no harm or destruction will be found on Your holy mountain. We ache for a world made new, where swords are turned to plowshares, where children play safely, where creation is healed under Your reign.
Let the knowledge of You — true knowledge, deep knowledge — wash over our region. Fill every street, every school, every boardroom, every house of worship with the revelation of who You are.
Where there is ignorance, bring light. Where there is confusion, bring clarity. Where there is rebellion, bring repentance.
Fill our own hearts first, Lord. Saturate us until we overflow with Your heart, Your mind, Your presence.
Make us living invitations for others to know You, until the earth is soaked in Your glory as the waters cover the sea.
Amen.
