Acts 4: The Altar of the Church - Agreement in Prayer

Acts 4:23–24, 29–31

On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them.

When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.” … “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

Scripture Reflection

When Peter and John returned to the gathered believers, the church did not panic or strategize — they prayed in agreement. Together, with one voice, they cried out to God, and God responded with power. Their united prayers shook the place and refilled them with the Spirit.

Jesus Himself promised, “If two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 18:19) Agreement in prayer is more powerful than solitary prayer. It turns scattered flashlights into a focused laser beam that can cut through metal — a spiritual force capable of penetrating the hardest places.

This is the heart behind movements like the New England Revival Covenant and its predecessors throughout revival history: to unify the streams of intercession into a mighty river that can flood a region with God’s presence. It is agreement that makes our prayers powerful. Agreement that pleases the heart of Jesus. Agreement that brings heaven to earth.

In a world of division, the Church has an extraordinary opportunity to stand together before the throne of grace, agreeing in prayer until the earth shakes and the Spirit fills us again.

Praying it UP / IN / OUT

UP: Worship Jesus, the One who invites us to pray in agreement and promises to hear us when we gather in His name.

IN: Pray for humility and unity in your own heart, asking God to teach you to link arms with others in prayer rather than isolating yourself.

OUT: Intercede for the Church in New England to become a united praying Church, where agreement multiplies power and the streams of intercession converge into a mighty river of revival.

Closing Prayer

God of unity and power,

We praise You for hearing the prayers of Your people, for responding when we agree together. You love to pour out Your Spirit where brothers and sisters stand as one.

Forgive us for isolating, for dividing, for praying small and alone. 

Teach us to agree in prayer, to unify our voices, to focus our cries until they break open the heavens.

Make us one in prayer, Lord — one in heart, one in mind, one in mission. 

Let our agreement become a laser beam of spiritual power, cutting through every stronghold and flooding New England with Your glory.

Until our region shakes with revival, sustain us in extraordinary united prayer.
